It can all start with just a simple smile then the next thing you know you’re at an Aesthetic doctor’s room needing Botox injections to reduce your smile line.
So… #bgang let’s start right at the beginning!
I will give you some of the best SKIN beauty tips for the month. For guys and girls, young and mature; we never say old around here! Whatever skin type, whatever complexion.
Did you know?
Skin is the largest organ of the body?! The skin and it’s derivatives (the hair, nails, sweat, and oil glands) make up the Integumentary system.
Fun fact: The Integumentary system is the scientific term for your body’s momentary.
One of the main functions of the skin is protection. It protects the body from external factors such as bacteria, chemicals, and temperature.
Top Tip : One thing that will change your skin’s life is Exfoliation!
Look at it this way… You wouldn’t cook in a pot with dirt from the last meal you prepared, neither would you add new paint over a wall that hasn’t been sand-scraped? Rally the same principle when it comes to your skincare. Only with the skin, you don’t have to ‘scrape’ every single day- just exfoliate 2/3 times a week. Thank Goodness!
Exfoliation increases the removal of dead skin cells from the outer layer of your skin, so it removes dull and dry skin. It increases blood circulation and instantly brightens your skin’s complexion.
My most favourite and important benefit about exfoliation is that it allows your daily products to penetrate your skin (not just sit on a dead layer of skin) and produce results- more efficiently.
There are 3 types of exfoliations:
- Physical Exfoliation– this one is by far the most common. It’s exactly what most of us do at home using a granular scrub and our fingertips to buff the skin’s surface. This is recommended twice a week. I would also recommend that the more sensitive your skin is, the lighter you scrub. The granules are usually coarse and can be quite abrasive to the skin so always be gentle- no matter how strong you may think your skin is.

- Chemical Exfoliation- this can entail going to a credible Aesthetic Clinic for a Chemical Peel. Or simply using acid-based products that dissolve the protein bonds between dead skin cells allowing for dead skin removal. The best part about chemical exfoliation whatever acid-based product is used is concentrated meaning it seeps deeper than other solutions. Sounds hectic right?! Trust me, from personal experience, I highly recommend chemical exfoliation, especially for acne-prone skin.

Not only does chemical exfoliation peel and remove that dead layer of skin cells, but it can reduce/erase dark acne marks. It also evens out your skins tone, and even softens fine lines and wrinkles.
Another great thing about chemical exfoliation, is that it immediately deposits skin healing and nourishing ingredients into the skin.
Contrary to popular belief, chemical exfoliations are very low-risk and they are customisable. Doctors can mix and match different acids to address your specific concerns. There is an acid for everything! Pigmentation, acne, fine lines, wrinkles and glow…I mean everything!
They can also go deeper based on the condition/ strength of your skin.
Depending on your skin, the strength of the peel, and your budget, chemical exfoliation/peels can be done once or twice a month.
It is usually a 30min treatment.
You can get these done by a Doctor, Dermatologist, or at an Aesthetic Clinic (a practice that offers skin treatments) near you. They will explain the process to you in detail, allow you to ask questions, and prescribe which acids/ treatments would work for your skin and your concerns.

- Mechanical exfoliation– this involves any device or machine to exfoliate the skin at home. You might be using the infamous facial-cleansing brushes with changeable heads, or you could be getting treatments such as micro-dermabrasion or laser at a reputable Aesthetic practice.

I must admit, these scientific terms can be intimidating. I don’t know what sounds worse between acid-based products, skin peeling, laser, or micro-dermabrasion— what I do know is the great benefits of exfoliation and how your skin will thank you for it.
In fact, not only will your skin thank you for it, but so will your bank balance and overall routine. How? Well, your follow-up products will start producing their intended results because they will be seeping into an invigorated layer of fresh new skin. Your blood circulation will increase meaning your skin will start rejuvenating on its own- as it should.
Remember, when it comes to skincare whatever treatment or product you use should always boost your skin’s cell turnover so that the skin works at its optimum level.
Exfoliation may be one of the most underrated skin treatments on the face of the earth – see what I did there.. but it’s definitely one of the best!
I recommend it for everyone and their momma!
