Students Break South African men’s 400m champion time at the FuelCell Varsity Series

Last night, New Balance hosted its second FuelCell Varsity Series at the Tuks Bestmed Athletics Stadium. It was a challenge to all varsity students to come through and attempt to beat Zakithi Nene’s best time of 44.74 seconds while testing out the new ultra-fast New Balance FuelCell Propel v4 running shoe.

It was an evening of sheer excitement and determination with both individual races and relay races taking place all in an attempt to beat Nene’s time to stand-to-win their share of R75 000 in prizes. With over 200 students registered, Boston students and athletic duo, Bongumusa Nkosi and Joel Semenya, beat Zak’s time at 44.68 in a relay race.

New and experienced runners alike will notice the shoe is softer for smoother landings, with an added stiffness in the forefoot for propulsive take-offs, the FuelCell Propel v4 is more responsive overall with improved energy return. Whether you’re focused on performance or searching for the thrill of something new, FuelCell is always focused on the next step. Once you take it, there’s no looking back.

Think you can beat South African 400m champion time? New Balance FuelCell Varsity Series event will be heading to Stellenbosch in April. For more information visit @NewBalance_SA on Twitter.
