Apple Music Shines The Spotlight on Afrikaans Pop Sensation Bernice West

Apple Music’s New Artist Spotlight for September is Bernice West, a Cape Town-based singer-songwriter whose unique vocal stylings position her at the forefront of the evolution of Afrikaans pop music.

“My gratitude to this absolute honour, is of incredible value. Thank you Apple Music for shining your spotlight on new artists and creating a platform for us to shape the future with you, not only in music but also beyond all borders. ‘Net Geleen’ is my debut album and translated it means ‘only borrowed’ – like our time on earth by the Grace of God. May this be the start of a great adventure with you,” said Bernice West.

Rising to prominence as the runner-up of the reality kykNET competition, Maak My Famous, this breakout star and viral sensation is no stranger to being thrust into the spotlight and her debut album, Net Geleen, is testament to her immense growth as a young artist.

Following the monumental success of her first two singles, the ukulele-driven “Sonop-Blom” and the foot-stomping “Die Hart”, which both reached #1 on Apple Music’s Afrikaans Singles Chart, Bernice released Net Geelen in July which climbed to the top of the Apple Music Afrikaans charts.

Produced by Robin Kyle every song on Net Geelen was written by Bernice herself. One month after its release, Bernice still has the #1 Afrikaans album in SA as well as the #1 and #2 songs on the Afrikaans Singles Chart on Apple Music.

Featured as part of Apple Music’s Visionary Women campaign in August, Bernice is one of the brightest up-and-coming Afrikaans singer-songwriters and is poised to change the face of Afrikaans pop, one genre-blending single at a time.
