Multi-award-winning DJ, producer, and esteemed entrepreneur DJ Kotin has sparked hope across South Africa with his latest single, Intozami. This track, part of an upcoming album dedicated to his late grandmother, is rapidly gaining traction, dominating streaming platforms, and currently soaring at the top of the Radio Monitor Top 10 charts.
Intozami, which loosely translates to “my own things” in isiZulu, is an infectious, upbeat track blending aftotech melodies with three-step influences. The song is a heartfelt plea to God, asking for blessings and the fulfillment of personal dreams. Written and performed by rising stars Njilour and Kayzee Musiq, Intozami expresses a deep emotional desire for independence and success, resonating with listeners through its powerful lyrics and authentic Durban sound.
“When you reflect on past achievements and look ahead into the future, you sometimes realise there’s a lot you need to do and this can make you feel like you’re behind in life. But we wrote this to spread positivity, affirm one another that prayers will be answered and that things will eventually work out” says DJ Kotin
While the production and composition of Intozami are exceptional, the true strength of the track lies in its heartfelt isiZulu lyrics. The opening verse, which has sparked significant engagement on TikTok, pleads, “Thixo somandla, ngicela uzwe imithandazo yami, nami ngicela ukuba nezinto zami, lomhlaba ngiwusebenzele,” translating to “Almighty God, please hear my prayers. I’d also like to have my own things—I’ve worked hard in this life.” The depth of the song’s message resonates with listeners on a profound, emotional level.
Reflecting on the inspiration behind his lyrics, DJ Kotin shares, “Everyone reaches a point where they desire independence and the ability to achieve their own goals through hard work. This song represents a sincere prayer for that independence, affirming to God that I’ve put in the effort and am ready to reap the rewards of my labor.”
The relatable second verse expresses a heartfelt plea: “Remember me, O God, when you respond to prayers and bless your children.” This line encapsulates a desire for divine remembrance and blessings during times of need.
The single, part of an upcoming album, will feature collaborations with artists such as Sykes, Skyewanda, Zanda Zakuza, Mondli Ngcobo, Fezeka Dlamini, Babes Wodumo, Tipcee, Herrah, Drega, and Skillz.
A song of ambition that captures and ushers everyone into the festive season, Intozami is available across all streaming platforms.
