Betway Summer Cup 2024: A Celebration of Racing, Fashion, and Prestigious Partnerships

The countdown to the much-anticipated R6 million Betway Summer Cup 2024, Africa’s Richest Race, has officially begun. The Barrier Draw, hosted by Betway and 4Racing at Katy’s Palace Bar in Sandton, revealed the 20 final runners for this iconic event. The field is packed with top contenders, including past champions Royal Victory (2023) and Puerto Manzano (2022).

This year marks 4Racing’s third consecutive year of partnership with Betway, with its commitment to elevating the occasion to new heights. With a staggering R6 million stake and a R20 000 reward for each groom of the final field, the Betway Summer Cup is the pinnacle of African horse racing.

Jonathan Blumberg from Betway Africa commented: “At Betway, we are dedicated to delivering an exceptional racing experience in collaboration with 4Racing. Horse racing remains a key focus area for our growth, and we are immensely proud to be part of the Betway Summer Cup, Gauteng’s most anticipated racing event, which has now become the richest Group race in Africa with a R6m stake. The Final Field and Barrier Draw event tonight is a great start not only to the festivities, but also as an opportunity for trainers to finalise their strategic preparations.”

Set under the vibrant theme ‘Silks in the City,’ this year’s showcase promises a dazzling fusion of high-stakes racing, cutting-edge fashion, and world-class entertainment. Drawing inspiration from the vivid colours of jockey silks, attendees are invited to embrace the playful yet sophisticated dress code.

Glamour Magazine, the official fashion partner for the Betway Summer Cup 2024, brings an extra touch of style and sophistication to the function. Their collaboration with 4Racing has produced a stunning editorial campaign led by Glamour’s fashion director, Tania Durand. This campaign features Betway Summer Cup ambassadors Tansey Coetzee (Miss South Africa 2007) and Ndavi Nokeri (Miss South Africa 2022), who bring the ‘Silks in the City’ theme to life through vibrant colours and chic designs inspired by jockey silks.

Adding to the prestige of the production, lifestyle and broadcast heavyweight BET Africa (DStv channel 129) has joined as an event partner for this year’s Betway Summer Cup, further enhancing the reach to young, lifestyle-oriented audiences.

The SABC continues its partnership for 2024, offering selective radio and television coverage of key moments from the day. Building on their contributions in previous years, the public broadcaster will once again capture the essence of the Betway Summer Cup for viewers across the nation.

Fundi Sithebe, CEO of 4Racing, expressed her gratitude, saying: “We are honoured to have such an incredible array of partners on board for the Betway Summer Cup 2024. Each partnership – from our title sponsor Betway to the lifestyle, fashion, and broadcast collaborations – plays a vital role in the success of this prestigious event. Together, we continue to raise the standard for horse racing in Africa, creating an unforgettable experience for everyone involved.”

Circa, the official infrastructure partner for the Betway Summer Cup 2024, plays a pivotal role in creating the Summer Garden and the two in-field VIP marquees. Their craftsmanship ensures a world-class immersion for attendees.

The Circa VIP Trackside Deck offers a luxurious package, including a prime trackside view of the Betway Summer Cup, gourmet dining, and a premium bar. This bespoke offering, curated in collaboration with Glamour Magazine, elevates the day’s sophistication.

The official Betway Summer Cup song, ‘City Lights,’ produced in collaboration with Universal Records artists Ricky Tyler and Gigi, captures the essence of the celebration, blending the excitement of summer, racing, and entertainment into a vibrant track that will be performed on the day.

This year’s entertainment line-up is headlined by South African favourites Mi Casa, while Turffontein’s Summer Garden is set to become a favourite among attendees. This al fresco marquee offers an inviting trackside view, with shaded seating, easy access to totes and refreshments, and a vibrant atmosphere that provides a refreshing alternative to the grandstand. The after-party will be hosted by broadcaster Zweli Mbhele and the line-up will also include Ms Cosmo, and FunkItUp DJs Chrizz Beatz and Vin Deysel.

South African Airways (SAA), the official airline partner, is offering up to 12% off domestic flights on SAA-operated routes to Johannesburg. The special offer is valid until 30 November 2024, with travel dates between 15 November and 14 December 2024. Attendees can use promo code ‘BSC24’ to take advantage of this exclusive deal.

Volvo, the official vehicle partner, will provide VIP shuttles for celebrities and ambassadors attending the Betway Summer Cup. Adding a touch of automotive sophistication, Volvo will also showcase their latest model, the EX30, at the racecourse.

Tickets for the Summer Garden are priced at R350 on Ticketpro, including access to Turffontein, a garden-style marquee, food vendors, bars, and the after-party.

General access tickets are R100, with full hospitality packages starting at R2,000 per person. For an elevated encounter, Circa’s inner-track marquee offers a spectacular ‘on-the-rail’ Summer Cup adventure for R4,850 (ex VAT) per person, complete with a curated menu and premium bar service.
