The countdown is on! Nudie Jeans, the iconic Swedish denim brand known for its rebellious spirit and commitment to sustainability, has opened its first African store in Sandton City, with an official celebration happening on 18 September 2025.
The launch marks the arrival of a philosophy that has earned Nudie a global cult following: jeans that are made to last, wear in beautifully, and be repaired for life.
Founded in Gothenburg in 2001, Nudie Jeans has built its reputation on timeless design, organic cotton, and a revolutionary wear-and-repair model. Every Nudie store doubles as a Repair Shop, offering free repairs for life on every pair of jeans, no matter when or where they were purchased.
Gothenburg Meets Johannesburg
For the Sandton launch, Nudie is weaving itself into local culture. For the launch, the brand tapped Johannesburg artist and designer Rodney Mudzengerere, founder of streetwear label Ifuku, to create an exclusive capsule of vests and hats.
Each piece has been created using Nudie Jeans’ deadstock, giving new life to what might otherwise have gone unused. By repurposing existing fabrics rather than producing new ones, the collaboration embodies Nudie’s global ethos of circular design, while highlighting the strength of South Africa’s creative community. It’s a celebration of craftsmanship and a reminder that sustainability and style can, and should, go hand in hand.
“This collaboration was a dream come true for me, getting to work with the best in the game,” Rodney says. “My name being with Nudie’s means the world. They love and respect denim in a way that inspires me. The craftsmanship is on another level.”
Soundtrack to the City
Music has always been part of Nudie Jeans’ DNA. For the Sandton launch, the brand invited cultural curator Andile Buka to craft an exclusive playlist of South African sounds, available now on Spotify.
The official store launch will be held on 18 September 2025 in Sandton City, where guests will raise a glass, explore the collection, and discover the exclusive Nudie x iFuku capsule. While the official launch is intimate and by invitation only, the afterparty is for everyone.
The celebration will kick off at 7pm at Artistry in Sandton, with live performances by Blessing T, Club Valley, and Kayla & The Crow. Guests can also expect boerie rolls and a Nudie Jeans exhibition that brings the brand’s “create tomorrow’s vintage” philosophy to life. Space is limited, and you can register to attend here.
