Eduvos Launches Landmark Commercial Law LLM as Demand Grows for Specialist Legal Skills

Early in 2025, Eduvos officially launched its Faculty of Law as a standalone Faculty, cementing its role as a forward-thinking force in reshaping legal education for South Africa. This move marks a bold leap forward in Eduvos’ mission to offer a complete academic pathway in law all the way from undergraduate to post-graduate qualifications, placing the institution firmly at the centre of conversations about the future of legal practice in the country.

Following earlier milestones such as the launch of the LLB programme, applications are now open for Eduvos’ first Master’s qualification: the Master of Laws (LLM) in Commercial Law, set to welcome its inaugural cohort in February 2026. Designed for working professionals, legal specialists, and ambitious graduates, this NQF Level 9, two-year distance-learning qualification offers the opportunity to specialise  in commercial law – areas that are actively shaping South African business. This adds to the Faculty’s ongoing efforts to provide Eduvos law students with hands-on, real-world legal training through the Eduvos Law Clinic, where students, under professional supervision, provide counsel to local community members who cannot afford private legal assistance.

Specialise in the Laws of the Future

The new LLM is a direct response to the shifting demands of the modern legal and commercial landscape. With emerging challenges such as AI in HR, crypto-asset regulation, cross-border digital trade, Financial Technology (FinTech) and ESG compliance, legal professionals can no longer rely on generalist knowledge alone. This programme equips students with the expertise to not only advise, but to lead in high-demand fields.

“Our aim is to produce lawyers and legal advisors who are prepared not just for today’s market but for the challenges that don’t yet have names,” said, Dr Tinaye Chivizhe the Head of the Faculty of Law at Eduvos. “This LLM reflects Eduvos’ long-term commitment to future-focused education that remains grounded in the needs of industry and society.”

With elective areas such as Banking and Instruments of Payment,  Cybersecurity, Corporate Law, Labour law and International Business Transactions, the LLM offers a curriculum built for forward motion. Students can apply new knowledge in real-time, providing strategic legal insight to employers or clients while they study.

A Format Built for Working Professionals

Delivered via a structured distance-learning model, the LLM enables students to continue working full-time while earning their degree. Fortnightly live seminars with leading subject matter experts, recorded sessions for flexible learning, and real-time tutorials ensure that students are supported, connected, and challenged intellectually.

The programme also facilitates cross-country networking, allowing students to collaborate with a national cohort of peers that will include attorneys, in-house counsel, compliance professionals, and even business strategists, who bring diverse insights into shared legal challenges.

A New Era in Legal Education

This master’s programme offers students with the chance to accelerate their career through a genuine thought leadership platform that offers a gateway to transformation. Whether you are a junior attorney pivoting to a specialised field, an in-house counsel navigating regulation, or a non-legal executive seeking legal fluency in strategy, the LLM in Commercial Law delivers the tools and knowledge to future-proof your legal thinking.

Moreover, as Eduvos’ first master’s qualification, this LLM signals the beginning of a broader academic expansion. It reflects Eduvos’ strategic goal of becoming a full-spectrum provider of legal education and an innovation hub in the evolving legal and regulatory space.

Applications Now Open for February 2026 Intake

Prospective students are encouraged to apply early for the 2026 intake. Places are limited, and demand is expected to be high for this prestigious, future-focused qualification.
