The Ndlovu Youth Choir’s national tours have sold out every year since 2021, with fans old and new loving the rich, varied repertoire the choir has built up over the years. Founder and conductor Ralf Schmitt has focused, this year, on the spectacular diversity of South African genres and musical traditions. This means that audiences can expect timeless international hits such as ‘Mbube (The Lion Sleeps Tonight)’ and ‘Homeless’ alongside homegrown treasures like Ghoema music, an integral part of Cape Town culture, perhaps most well-known for being the soundtrack to the city’s annual Tweede Nuwejaar celebration. Add to that favourites from South African stars including Miriam Makeba, Johnny Clegg and Mango Groove, as well as gospel songs and an Amapiano medley, and there is not only something for everyone, but a setlist of world-class quality, performed by a musical collective loved and admired around the planet. The choir can even boast a version of ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ personally endorsed by Queen drummer Roger Taylor!

Following their Johannesburg run, the Ndlovu Youth Choir are looking forward to making their debut at the world-famous Edinburgh Festival. To fit the fast-moving festival context, the choir have created a sleek, high-voltage one-hour production, “A Celebration of Africa”, which will run in Edinburgh’s Assembly Hall at 12:10pm every day from 06 to 30 August 2026. Tickets can be booked now atwww.assemblyfestival.com. Their Fringe debut will be a celebration of rhythm, culture and connection — bold, uplifting and impossible to resist. It was the choir’s explosive energy, vocal brilliance and powerful storytelling that first brought them international attention when they became the first choir to reach the finals of America’s Got Talent in 2019, inspiring Simon Cowell to exclaim, “If I could bottle your energy, I’d drink it every day!”

“We’re so looking forward to bringing our shows first to Johannesburg and our fantastic audience there who have also supported us so generously, and then to the Edinburgh Fringe for the first time, mixing it up with thousands of other artists and becoming part of such a rich tradition there,” says Schmitt.

“The Ndlovu Youth Choir continues to be such a phenomenal ambassador for South African music, arts and professionalism,” says Tony Feldman of Showtime Management. “We’re so glad to bring them back to Johannesburg and crowds who love them so much before they head to Scotland and, I’m sure, more incredible success!”

Ndlovu Youth Choir concerts are electrifying theatrical experiences packed with choreography, infectious joy and world-class musicianship. Every performance radiates passion, pride and the unifying power of music. From ‘African Dream’ to ‘Nessun Dorma’ via ‘Pata Pata’, ‘Circle Of Life’, ‘Waka Waka’, ‘Higher Love’ and the anthemic ‘Africa’ this is music, backed by passion and skill, to move and excite anyone who hears it.
