SimmySimmyNya Believes Broken Crayons Still Colour Too

After the release of “Daily Paper,” featuring Ginger Trill and “Any Means,” SimmySimmyNya has finally released his sophomore EP, Broken Crayons Still Colour 2: Not Your Average. Inspired by his personal experiences and those of the people around him or shared experiences, SimmySimmyNya sought to focus this project on his ability to paint vivid images with words.

Through music, he wished to extend his pen to topics like abuse, love lost, the pursuit of happiness, and the quest for wealth. Thematically, his primary point of departure is depression, specifically dealing with it and trying to overcome one’s depression. For the “Any Means” rapper, feelings of inadequacy began to set in due to past failures and lack of resources. However, over the past two years, he has felt closer to, if not already, on the other side of what he describes as “dark energies”. More specifically a side wherein he feels soberer with a less grim outlook on life. “[A place] where happiness is possible and you have the power to make it so,” he explains.

Broken Crayons Still Colour 2: Not Your Average has officially been in production between 2018 – 2019. However, there was a record recorded as early as 2016. The EP has been created and moulded over different intervals of SimmySimmyNya’s life, with it finally being completed in 2020.

Different songs were recorded at different intervals of my life, with the oldest being from 2016. But the rest of the project was written & recorded over the course of 2018-2019. Everything was finished and mixed and mastered in 2020 and released thereafter.
