On Wednesday night, 11 November, Sportscene’s Put Me On music competition came to a thrilling close with Sivuyisiwe Slinga aka Trusted SLK, walking away as the ultimate winner!
Trusted SLK beat over 4000 entries in this year’s Put Me On contest to claim the top position. Her fierce lyrics, unapologetic character and charisma made her a favorite right from the start. When asked about how winning PMO 2020 made her feel, she said “I’m over the moon, ecstatic and most of all, I’m ready. When they called out my name I couldn’t believe it, but I believe if I keep on doing me, I can’t go wrong, because doing me is what got me here. I would just like to thank Sportscene and Puma for this great opportunity, I won’t let you down!”
Raised in Cape Town, Trusted SLK has been making music for the past 11 years. She is no stranger to competition as she made it into the top 25 shortlist for Vuzu’s The Hustle season 2. She also became a top 8 finalist for SABC 1’s hip hop show One Mic season 3, being the only female rapper to make it to that stage of the competition.
Sportscene has been had at work building up platforms for the new wave of musicians in South Africa. The creation of Capsule Fest, the Sportscene Studio in Johannesburg and the Put Me On competition has helped to push SA youth culture to a whole new level. The likes of Costa Titch, Lucas Raps, Indigo Stella and now Trusted SLK have all benefited from the clothing retailers interest in young artists.
With amazing prizes such as a song produced by Tweezy, Puma merchandise worth R50 000 and a 6 month PR deal, the country waits with anticipation to see the next steps Trusted SLK will take in her music career.
