It isn’t every day a YouTube series becomes such a success that it launches a second season due to popular demand. It’s also not every day that a host of local talent line up to be featured in a YouTube series. That is, unless you’re referring to Klipdrift Brandy’s original series, ‘UnKlipped’.
The series of short films capture real conversations with real South Africans doing what comes naturally when friends get together – laughing, joking and having a good time together. Unclipped, unedited and unchecked so the magic can flow.
It clearly hit the right spot with its target audience, with an incredibly successful first season that was viewed by over 1.5 million people equating to 42 000 hour of total watch time. It also ran in long format garnering over 800 000 more views. Season 2 will see local television personality Tats Nkonzo take up the seat as host for the second time. For this season Klipdrift brings more of SA’s best creatives, comedian, DJs and sportsmen together to share their #GoldBetweenFriends stories.
Fred Leclezio, Klipdrift Marketing Manager, says ‘’UnKlipped is all about real friendships and authentic, unplugged conversation between them. Guests on the show are sharing stories that are touching, emotional, and funny – and the magic just happens naturally. During the 20-odd minute episodes, we get to share in the memories and friendships between celebrities and their close friends. The content is just so relatable and that’s what makes it ‘gold’. I think the series resonates because it captures the banter that is found amongst friends – unplugged and unedited – this is not often seen in advertising features. It brings home what Klipdrift is really all about – close connections or “gold between friends”.
“In Season 2, we watch these familiar celebs engage over Zoom which is exactly what we all did during lockdown with our friends and families. It’s these friendships and connections that withstand distance and time, that reflect the Klipdrift way of life, ‘’ he adds.
UnKlipped Season 2 brings more stories that inspire, uplift and bring a smile to those who watch them on YouTube. And with a guest line-up that includes Joey Rasdien, Coconut Kelz and Tumi Morake, viewers can look forward to lots more fun and laughter at the Barber Shop.
Season 2 launched in October 2020 with the first three episodes available on YouTube for viewing here.
Episode 1, the Pure Monate Reunion, sees Joey Rasdien, Chris Forrest and David Kau reminiscing about the series that cemented their careers;
Episode 2, Music Through the Ages, looks at friendships in the music industry with DJ Fresh, Eugene Mthethwa, and Tumi Molekane AKA Stogie T;
And Episode 3, Femme Power, applauds female comedians with Coconut Kelz, Celeste Ntuli and Tumi Morake doing what they do best.
The last three episodes will be uploaded over the course of the next six weeks, and fans can subscribe to the series on YouTube to receive notifications.
The UnKlipped content series speaks for itself, authentically capturing the banter that is found amongst friends – unscripted, unplugged and unchecked – it’s pure South African Gold.
