We Got You Covered From Head to Toe!

Granny Mouse Country House & Spa is ideally situated in “herb heaven”.

With so many natural wonder of herbs in the area, and according to Sean Granger, the GM of Granny Mouse, there is so much opportunity in using the magic they provide.

Going back in time, herbs have always been in the picture when it comes to nourishing hair. And most of the herbs can be found in our cupboards or growing in our gardens.

For thousands of years, herbs have been used to nourish the scalp and promote the growth of strong, healthy hair. After consulting with the Granny Mouse spa manager, we’ve outlined some of the best choices and how to prepare them.

Lavender, which grows abundantly in the midlands and South Africa helps to boost hair growth and also reduce baldness. Its oil is anti-inflammatory and anti-septic amongst other attributes. The oil also stimulates circulation in the scalp and strengthens new hair growth. Lavender is good to use if you want to condition oily hair.

Lavender also is a natural insect repellent against fleas, ticks, mosquitos etc. So even if you not using it in your hair, it’s a great idea to grow in your garden as it smells so lovely.

Another great herb is Rosemary, which has been used for hundreds of years also to prevent hair loss. It works best when mixed with olive oil and applied to the scalp. Again, this herb is good to apply when wanting to condition oily hair.

If you not using it for your hair then, add to your recipes such as lamb, vegetables and/or breads and so much more.

If you want to make up some home shampoos, and provide you hair with body, apply Sage, Rosemary and Parsley.

If wanting to make shampoos at home for hair and scalps, always be sure to do a patch test just to double check before applying on your head of hair.

Another suggestion to help with oily hair, is a fantastic home shampoo, made up as follows: 2 tablespoons of fresh mint leaves, one tablespoon of Rosemary leaves in half a cup of hot water for over 30 minutes. Strain and add the liquid to a quarter cup of baby shampoo. Use it as often as you do normally and one can see the difference in a few weeks.

To increase natural shine, body and lustre in your hair, is another really simple recipe: two fresh sprigs of Rosemary and leave in 2 cups of hot water overnight. Strain in the morning and use as a final rinse out of the shampoo.

These are just some of many ideas to using natural herbs for your hair and at the same time being kind to Mother Nature.
