Following the success of fan-favourite singles ‘Love Drive’ and ‘Family Gathering’ earlier this year, acclaimed bassist and composer Vimbs Mavimbs returns with a bold and deeply introspective new release, the final single ahead of his highly anticipated album,’ Late Bloomer’, arriving this June.
This latest offering is a sonic reflection on the belief that greatness is never found in the comfortable middle; it exists only at the extremes of total commitment. It captures the moment where hesitation and compromise fall away, making space for an unapologetic presence and unwavering self-expression. Driven by rich improvisation, layered textures, and emotionally charged performances, the track brings together a remarkable ensemble of musicians whose chemistry creates a soundscape that is both fearless and intimate. From expansive harmonic passages to explosive rhythmic interplay, the composition speaks to artistic conviction and the courage required to fully step into one’s purpose.
Featuring Vimbs Mavimbs on double bass, Lungile Kunene on drums, DiTeboho Kobedi on piano and synth, Keenan Ahrends on guitar, and Robin Fassie on trumpet, the single is the final preview before’ Late Bloomer’ is unveiled, the single signals a defining moment in Vimbs Mavimbs’ artistic journey, one marked by growth, clarity, and fearless creative identity.
Currently pursuing his Master’s in Music in Jazz at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg in Hamburg, Vimbs Mavimbs began his musical journey at the University of the Witwatersrand, where his early training developed under the guidance of Bheki Khoza, Jeanne Zaidel-Rudolph, Malcolm Nay, Jonathan Crossley, and Carlo Mombelli.
