Moonchild Sanelly Announces Hometown Show FULL MOON – Return To Jozi

Moonchild Sanelly is excited to announce that she will play her album FULL MOON  live in her home city of Johannesburg for the FIRST TIME after touring the world with hits like ‘Scrambled Eggs’, ‘Do My Dance’ and ‘Falling’.   TICKETS on sale now!

Having recently supported Doja Cat in Pretoria, Moonchild was inspired by the South African crowd’s reception to the music from her latest album Full Moon and was determined to put on a show in her home city of Johannesburg with a purposely affordable ticket price.
Moonchild Sanelly said:

“In my writing, I pay homage to the many years that I struggled, because that shaped me.  I have toured the world with Full Moon, and bringing this show home to Johannesburg is everything to me.   To share my alternative sound with my original Jozi crowd means the absolute world…  In fact, it means the Moon!”

Doing things her own way is ingrained in the psyche of trailblazing South African musician Moonchild Sanelly, whose drive to succeed has been fuelled by personal challenges.

Moonchild Sanelly established her signature sound in her early days in Durban & Jozi – which she called ‘future-ghetto-funk’.  Hits such as I Walk Ye Para, Midnight Starring, Makhe & her award-winning debut album ‘Rabulapha!’ catapulted her to stardom in South Africa before international collaborations came calling, spawning Moonchild Sanelly’s quest of global domination.

These high profile international collaborations have so far included Beyonce (‘My Power’),  Gorillaz (‘With Love To An Ex’), Wizkid, Major Lazer, Diplo, and several collaborations with Damon Albarn’s Africa Express project.

Having signed to UK label Transgressive records, she has since released EP ‘Nüdes’, second album ‘Phases’ and third album ‘Full Moon’.   The albums have won worldwide critical acclaim, with FULL MOON being named as Variety and GQ’s albums of the year.

Global festival appearances include South by Southwest (SXSW) in both USA and Australia (where she was named as Rolling Stone’s “coolest thing they saw”), Primavera, Boardmasters, Afronation, Meltdown, Wilderness, Jazz Cafe Festival, and a record-breaking 9 shows at the UK’s legendary Glastonbury Festival.

It’s rare that an alternative artist finds such success in commercial spaces without having to dilute themselves, but Moonchild Sanelly is a true fighter: “I fought everything for me to exist as myself and to win as myself,” she says, putting her ambition down to her mum’s passing when she was a teenager. “I was constantly reminded about my magic and my power… that nothing is impossible.  Then I had to survive without her.”

This mentally-empowered upbringing and many periods of intense hardship have made her the outspoken artist she has become.  Challenges as a woman, an artist and a mother have been channelled into the depths of Moonchild Sanelly’s performances.
