How did you meet?

Humphrey: We met on Facebook, my sister posted my picture on her Facebook account and wifey commented on it and from there, wemoved to DMs then Whatsapp, then calls and wedding bells LOL.

Was it love at first sight?

Well lol it was a “comment at first sight” hahaha.

What attracted you to each other?

Humphrey: Well, her great personality was the first thing that attracted me to her and the fact that she is in love with Jesus Christ was the crown.
Hlengiwe: Amazing personality, he’s playful, charming, caring and loves God.

Why did you get married?

We acknowledged that there’s no one else on this earth who can fill up the spaces we filled in each other’s lives. So we took the choice to occupy that space and make life as beautiful as our presence was in each other’s lives.

How did he propose?

On my birthday, 7/7/18 he took me to a very nice international restaurant in the heart of Houghton, seated on the best window view, he got it all planned, I mean from the Store Managers to the servers and a hidden camera man. I couldn’t stop crying LOL. It definitely had to be a YES!

How has marriage changed you?

Not a lot, we’ve always been best friends and we never stopped dating even after tying the knot. Though marriage does require extra patience. We both have learnt that we are now co-managers of a household, this meant more responsibilities but we have fun because we do everything together, from washing dishes, cleaning, etc. LOL well I mean he helps most of the time of course.

What has marriage taught you?

It taught us that God can give you a spouse; however as a partner, it is your responsibility to work on the blessing that God has given you. God can give you the love but maintaining the love, comes from both partners. Doing things from your heart makes you to feel like you’re on top of the world, because the happiness of your spouse makes you happy.

What do you love most about being married?

Well the fact that I can do breakfast for my wife while she’s in bed and that she is running the household capably so, I love loving her.

What do you mostly fight about?

We honestly fight about little things, closed door, LOL very little things that we forgive and forget quite frankly. Oh and spending a lot of time on phone that was a concern.

What irritates you about each other?

She leaves the bread plastic open lol. He’s too strict

How do you keep love alive?

We just never stopped dating, we dance, we pray together, we sit next to each other on the couch every single day without fail to feel, smell and just love each other.

What do you do for fun together?

We go to theatre plays, movies, watch TV together. We dance half of the time, we are kids around each other because we play with each other..

What do you think is the reason for people to not believe in the institution of marriage?

We think it’s the misconception around the negative testimonials of marriage. Marriage is fun when you’re married to someone who just wants to love you and love you and love you and never stop loving you. Imagine if two partners had that mentality, happiness will ooze without fail. Also, the fact that people think marriage is a prison, no it’s not. It is more like a Garden of Eden, full of plenty of everything, plenty of God, plenty of love, compliments, goodness, etc. People should understood that truly marriage is a GIFT from God.

What advice do you have for people intending to get married?

Get married for the right reasons and don’t give up easily. Trust God, He won’t disappoint.
