How did you meet?
At Church
Was it love at first sight?
Not at all.
What attracted you to each other?
The saying opposites attract is what brought us together.
Why did you get married?
It came natural that we seal our love with a final step of – until death to us apart.
How did he propose?
Proposed on my surprise birthday party in front of my parents.
How has marriage changed you?
It really has not changed me much except that now you know that you are not an individual. You are responsible for other human beings in your life who are your immediate family.
What has marriage taught you?
Communication, openness and not being afraid to come with anything that you might be dealing with as an individual.
What do you love most about being married?
Knowing that you have been blessed with a life partner and that the Lord is part of your marriage.
What are some of the challenges you’ve faced in your marriage and how did you overcome them?
Challenges are continuously there in marriage, it’s a relationship which is on a continuous maintenance and being worked on. Since our foundation of marriage is in God, we go unto him in prayer and communicate with each other in openness.
What do you mostly fight about?
Time. He is a time keeper and I tend to take my time.
What irritates you about each other?
He forgets to be continuously romantic.
How do you keep love alive?
He still buys me flowers and chocolates every other day because he knows I love them. Surprise each other with good meaningful gestures.
What do you do for fun together?
Started doing date nights. Planning to travel more from 2020 going forward
What do you think marriage is?
It is a commitment between two individuals who come together to form a union under the Lord’s foundation and to share their lives together for life and till death , o them apart.
What makes marriage work?
Communication, openness and making the Lord the foundation.
What makes it fail?
Lack of communication and people not being honest with themselves.
What do you think is the reason for people to not believe in the institution of marriage?
People don’t respect the union and partnership they have entered into.
One small pothole on the journey and they think it’s right to step out of the marriage and not respect it.
Do you think pre-marital counselling is important, why?
Yes, the counsellor helps to highlight some important aspects and even challenges that may arise in the marriage and how to go about addressing them.
Why do you think there is such a high rate of divorce?
People are not fully committed to their marriages and not being honest with themselves as individuals. People need to do it for the right reasons.
What measures can be taken to break the high rate of divorce?
People need to get into a marriage for the right reasons and not rush to please other people.
What do you think are the roles of husbands and wives in marriage?
The roles are to support each other to build a strong standing family in the community.
What advice do you have for people intending to get married?
Do a self-introspection as individuals before taking this step of entering into marriage union and do it for the right reasons.
